Fox's Family Guy
Fox has just rolled out an all new Internet TV channel for their hit animated comedy series, Family Guy. Now you can access classic clips, musical numbers, and full episodes online. Brightcove's APIs were used to customize the look and feel of the Internet video experience, integrating the player into the official Family Guy website and giving the online community an exiting new opportunity to access the television programming. Stay tuned - lots more irreverent humor on the way.
Family Guy joins a fast growing list of Internet TV channels to launch with Brightcove under the company-wide agreement with Fox Entertainment Group announced earlier this year, which include Fuel, Speed, Big10 Network, America's Most Wanted, Fox Searchlight, and FX.

I recently watched an episode of Family Guy where Pete and Lois enter a talent show, after smoking some of Brain's marijuana. The way they are portrayed, and the message at the end that THC is similar to LSD is absurd. People do not lose their minds from smoking a joint. This kind of portrayal harkens back to government propaganda films like "Reefer Madness" and degrades the integrity of your show.
LSD is the most powerful hallucinogen in the world, a chemically created substance.
Marijuana is a completely natural, un-chemically altered, very mild drug that causes different effects in different people, but it never causes effects anywhere near those of LSD, and the general public knows this, since over half the population have smoked pot at least once. Furthermore, there is no peer-reviewed, non-govermental science studies that show marijuana negatively effects the brain. In fact, the very first Commission on Marijuana, solicited by president Nixon, found that marijuana was no more, and probably a lot less, harmful, than alcohol, and therefore all the arguments that made us decide prohibition was worse than legalizing even a drug that is as dangerous as alcohol. Alcohol is both physically and psychologically addicting, causes aggression in many people, can cause over-dose, destroys the liver, many families through domestic violence, and kills thousands through motor vehicle acccidents. Whereas, marijuana is not physically addictive, one can not over-dose from it, people generally turn very peaceful when they smoke it, and usually avoid driving, or if they do drive, drive more slowly. Instead of causing a lot of harm, marijuana is a medicine that has recently been shown to kill cancer cells while leaving healthy cells alone, and can be used to treat brain cancer and prostate cancer, amoung other forms. It is a great treatment for glaucoma, it has been used for centuries by many cultures, and is completely all-natural. When people encounter stronger varities of hydroponically grown cannabis, they smoke less. If marijuana truly caused any serious mental problems, we would be seeing drastic real-world effects, like those seen by smokers of tobacco in relation to cancer. The rate of marijuana smokers has steadily increased, yet we have not seen a significant rise in mental illness, especially not related to marijuana. In fact, if anything causes mental illness, it is the rat-race pace we work at, and the poor foods we eat. Marijuana may prove to actually be a deterrant to mental illness brought on by stress. By there's no substance that is right for everyone. If you have an addictive personality, or a history of mental illness in your family, you should probably avoid all drugs, except those prescribed by a psychiatrist.
I could go on and on, but I will simply say that people do not appreciate it when entertainment is used to make a political statement.
Anyone with any intelligence knows that the only reason marijuana is illegal is for political, not scientific, health related, or any other logical reasons. Alcohol is far more dangerous, and kills thousands of people each year, yet we decided long ago that prohibition caused more problems that it fixed.
It is prohibition that brings drug dealers into our cities. If marijuana were legalized, taxed, and regulated, it would be harder for minors to get ahold of--drug dealers don't card. Legalizing it, with regulation similar to that used for alcohol, would put the drug dealers out of business. It would not cause an explosion in use--people who don't like the effects of pot would not start smoking it just because it was legal.
For people prone to mental illness, it does increase their chance of developing mental problems by about 1%--that's the true figure, despite the 40% that some have reported because they did not understand how statistics in this field work. If pot caused mental problems, we would be seeing huge real-world effects, since the number of people smoking has steadily grown--but we do not see those effects, like the effects one sees in rise of cancer among cigarette smokers.
There are always a few people who should avoid substances, foods, etc. People with heart trouble should avoid eggs, because of the cholesterol, but we don't make eggs illegal for everyone.
Finally, considering the damage alcohol and tobacco do, even if pot were half as dangerous as they try to make it out, it would still be totally hypocritical to have alcohol and cigarettes legal but imprison otherwise law-abiding citizens over this victimless crime, ruining their lives, wasting our tax dollars, and often turning these people into true criminals. Law enforcement should be focusing on robbery, and rape, and murder, and ID theft. The only reason this plant is illegal--and it's absurd that the government can even tell a person what they can or can't put into their own body (it's also un-Constitutional)---is because a number of special interest groups--mainly the alcohol, pharmaseutical, and oil companies--want to keep it that way, and pour thousands into the pockets of politicians to make sure they keep it that way. But many states are starting to see the light, and even though Medical rights are States' rights under the Constitution (any powers not specifically given to the Fed. gov't are reserved to the people and States)the DEA continue to disrespect the Laws of the States and the will of the people.
I love Family Guy, and a lot of FOX shows. But if FOX shows start pushing FOX NEWS type ideas, I swear that I will stop watching anything FOX puts out, along with all my friends, and many other people. We do not want our entertainment politicized. Please forward this up the chain for me.
By the way, most people either quit or severely curtail their pot use as they get older. I stopped smoking when I turned 35, with no problems. I had trouble sleeping for about a week, but that was it. Do some research: go to NORML.org for science-based truth about cannabis.
Thank you for your time and attention.
