For years, Brightcove has been a leading voice in the industry promoting best practices and introducing platform features to help media publishers optimize video content for search engine discovery.

The foundation of our search engine optimization capabilities is Brightcove's powerful Media API. With our Media API, developers surface HTML metadata from videos in the context of a webpages, rending the content available for indexing by text-based search engines spiders (e.g., Google, Yahoo!, Bing).

Brightcove also makes it easy to generate video site maps for video search engines like Google Videos and Blinkx. Using any of the SDKs available for the Brightcove Media API (e.g., Ruby, Python, Java), publishers can auto-generate real-time XML site maps and MRSS feeds for Google and other major search engines.

You can see this in action by going to Google.com and typing Dexter in the search box. On the first page search results, you will see titles, thumbnail images, and links from a Brightcove-generated video metadata site map, which all drive traffic directly into the online video content featured on the official site for Showtime Networks, Sho.com.

This is just one example of the many ways Brightcove is helping media publishers optimize their video. And we're just getting started. Stay tuned. We have lots of exciting new innovation on the way over the coming months that will make it even easier to drive audience traffic to your video content through search engines.
