Brightcove is known for offering the fastest, most powerful video players on the web. We've got the largest built-in library of gorgeous, fast and lightweight player templates with point-and-click styling. You can customize players even more using BEML editing. No other online video platform gives you as many ways to control the viewer experience.

We've written before about The Power of Player Customization for creating consistent and compelling branded experiences, with an example from Brightcove customer, Carnival Cruise Lines.

Now, you have the chance to show your stuff by designing a new player template skin for the chance to win a free iPad. Here's how to enter:

Video Player Skin Design Contest

  1. Download a Brightcove player design template.
Check out what a chromeless player looks like, or the difference between a horizontal or vertical layout for the video playlist in a player. By browsing these working examples, you can think about the types of players you might create in Brightcove Studio, their size, and layout. When you download the standard player templates and Photoshop layout files, you can customize the look and feel of your players further.

  2. Skin the look and feel of the player.
Here's a before and after of a "video player with horizontal video list" template in its standard and skinned versions.

Edit the layers of the Photoshop .psd file to change the color scheme and background images for the template of your choice. Note: you must have Photoshop installed on your computer to participate.

  3. Send the designed .jpg to designcontest@brightcove.com.

* Terms and conditions apply. See full contest rules.

I wish I have seen this blog last year so that I could enter this contest. But then again thanks for the info.

We apologize if the intent was unclear. Brightcove does not plan to make any profit from this contest. We hope this contest will attract designers to apply for our Senior Visual Designer position based in Cambridge, MA. For more information about our design position and others, your can check out our careers page at www.brightcove.com/careers. Also this contest is open US residents only and ends January 31, 2011.

When is the contest over?

I agree with the previous comments. This type of conduct is generally considered to be unethical. A possible Ipad is not just compensation for free artwork. You are making money off of this project, you are not a volunteer organization. Artists deserve to be paid for there work, not taken advantage of with an offer of "possible compensation". If you were interested in an ethical arrangement you would hire a reputable artist and pay them accordingly for their efforts

Taking advantage of designers and looking for practically FREE labor is probably not the way you want to be positioning your brand.

So let me try and wrap my head around this. For the cost of an single iPad, you envision getting dozens, if not hundreds, of free speculative submissions for this project. How wonderful for you, although I am a bit surprised that anyone who pretends to be involved in the Graphics business would ever consider taking advantage of "fellow" artists. Unfortunately, this posting likely won't stay up for long, since of course it doesn't serve your needs. Have a great holiday season and thanks again for degrading our vocation making a living in graphic arts a lottery!
